第九交响曲《自新世界》 – 2. 慢板
安东宁 德沃夏克
Did you know Dvořák composed the famous “New World Symphony” while he was staying in America? This may be a reason why it came to occupy such an important place in American culture and music. This second movement, “Largo”, even became a spiritual of its own with added lyrics called “Goin’ Home”. It was performed at memorial events for presidents and even inspired jazz composers and musicians, from saxophonist Albert Ayler to pianist Art Tatum, who made the "Largo" swing in 1949.
